Nightfreight Leeds staff 'Race For Life'

'Race for Life', is the UK's largest women-only fundraising charity.
Events are held throughout the UK to raise money for cancer research.

This year's 'race' at Temple Newsam, Leeds, was held on 5th July and Nightfreight Leeds staff, Debby Byrom, Julie Lund, Yvonne Greenough and Julie Gudgeon took part.

Debby Byrom, Customer Care Manager at Nightfreight Leeds (Depot 37) said about the day…

"The race for life campaign has been running for 16 years now and involves women either walking or running distances of 5k to raise money for cancer research.

The activities beforehand were fun. They involved a work out for everyone taking part and a warm up given by the "Nivea Cheerleaders" which most people seemed to enjoy as they were all men!!

We were entertained by a ventriloquist who had appeared on 'Britain's Got Talent' and even the weather was on our side too!

Usually everyone taking part has a personal reason for doing so. They have either battled cancer themselves or have a friend or family member who has or is suffering from this terrible disease.

Everyone who takes part wears an identity number on their back and below the number is written the reason why they are taking part. Reading the reasons was heart rending, it was a very emotional day for us all.

We were wearing bright blue t-shirts which had the Nightfreight logo on them in aluminous green, so we did rather stand out in the crowd

We will be racing as a team again next year".

The girls raised £540.00, of which £220.00 was raised at the depot alone. The rest was contributed by staff from various locations around the Nightfreight network.

The girls would like to say a massive 'Thank You' to all that sponsored this worthy cause.
