In a move designed to help facilitate the further growth of its two-man home delivery business, Nightfreight has taken delivery of more Bevan21 profile bodies. It follows successful trials by Nightfreight of the streamlined aerodynamic bodies, which independent tests have shown can make fuel savings of up to 15%.
Commenting, Peter Louden, Managing Director at Nightfreight, said: "As our two-man home delivery business continues to grow we are looking to add to our fleet with the best in class. Whilst the potential to reduce our fuel bills is attractive, this body design is also about safety.
We believe that we can improve vehicle stability and handling by reducing sensitivity to side-winds. Ultimately this means that the driver is less fatigued which can only benefit our customers and employees."
Modernising the Nightfreight fleet in this way is part of a major initiative which links fuel cost control, safety and environmental responsibility. It is designed to improve driver performance across the business and involves defensive driver training techniques and the introduction of fuel champions at each depot.
KPIs have also been introduced to help monitor the improvements made in fuel consumption, which represent £0.5m savings per annum.
Ged Lees, Commercial Director, Victoria Plumb, a two-man home delivery customer, congratulated Nightfreight on their progressive approach to vehicle design despite the difficult economic climate.
