Founded in 1984, Nightfreight has become UK market leader in the overnight delivery of irregular dimension and weight (IDW) freight, operating a 1000+ vehicle fleet and employing over 2500 people at three hubs and 52 depots around the United Kingdom.
Listed on the Stock Exchange from 1993 until 2001, an MBO in February 2001 put the company back into private ownership and triggered a restructuring which lead to Nightfreight redefining and developing the IDW niche.
Within 10 months the company had won UK leadership, dominating what was once the 'Cinderella' sector of the market.
In 2002 the launch of a new corporate identity and branded Customer Care Service raised profits and turnover dramatically and in April 2004 a new home delivery service, Deliver2Home, was successfully launched. This complemented an already established 1-man home delivery service and our white glove 2-man Pacemaker delivery service.
In addition, a well established part of Nightfreight's service is its dedicated contracts operation, part of which is devoted to 2-man home deliveries for leading retailers.
In 2004, an £89m secondary management buy-out provided additional funding to accelerate developments and June 2005 saw a £2.4 million investment in customer service and operational developments, radically changing hub and depot procedures and streamlining the entire consignment handling process.
In September 2005, launching QuorumValue made Nightfreight the first freight industry company to introduce a package that rewarded customers for giving it more freight – from single packages through to mixed freight, bundled consignments.
Of course, there's no such thing as an overnight success in the freight industry but Nightfreight is undoubtedly the nearest thing to it.
